George, Victoria Bay & Wilderness
This rich valley, formerly known as Outeniqualand (the ‘land of milk and honey’), which suitably describes the fertile and green paradise, was named after King George III in 1811. Nestled between the Outeniqua Mountains and the Indian Ocean, this laid back little town offers many attractions and activities with a moderate climate making George an all year round destination. George is the 6th oldest town in South Africa and serves as the departure and arrival point of the Outeniqua Choo Tjoe, South Africa's last scheduled mixed steam train service which operates on the Outeniqualand Preserved Railway. For the adventure enthusiasts there are many hiking trails which provide spectacular views over George and the Indian Ocean. While for an even more adventurous point of view one can get swept off your feet as you go abseiling or paragliding hundreds of feet over this mature Garden Route town.
