Jeffrey's Bay and Cape St. Francis
Named after Captain Jeffreys, who sailed his cargo along the East Coast of South Africa on trading expeditions in the 1840’s. He was forced to land his vessel here, and soon realising its potential built a small port on what is now the main beach. J-Bay as the locals know it is home to the renowned and popular factory shops. These shops are all conveniently situated in the centre of the town and stock well-known labels such as Roxy, Billabong, Quicksilver and Rip Curl. Perennial warm waters and consistent swell are a couple of the reasons that make Jeffreys Bay a surfer’s paradise. Rated among the ten best surfing spots in the world, J-Bay hosts the Billabong Pro Surfing Festival every July. The competition attracts top surfers from around the globe to ride the infamous Supertubes. It is also the perfect place for beginners to learn how to surf as lessons are offered by professional instructors. Kite-surfing lessons are also on offer, which combines paragliding and surfing, so you can experience the ultimate thrill and a new way to conquer the waves and the air.
