Oudtshoorn
Situated inland and to the north of Mossel Bay; Oudtshoorn takes on its own distinctive beauty with its rugged surroundings covered in fynbos. In the heart of the Karoo this century old town is towered by the Swartberg Mountains whose high peaks beckons the soul. However, a mounting bike ride down the steep slopes is sure to bring you back to earth. The area is also known as ‘Die land van groot voels’ (the land of big birds) due to the large number of ostrich farms in the area and is considered the ostrich capital of South Africa. Try your riding skills on a two-meter tall bird or visit the extraordinary Cango Caves, all in one day. If that is not enough, cuddle a Bengal Tiger or take a bath with crocs -live ones, seriously. Oudsthoorn is a proud and traditional town, so take a step back in time to an age of adventurers, cowboys and explorers.
